Why aftercare matters
The appointment ends at the salon, but how long the result lasts is decided in the days that follow. Small daily habits can make a real difference to how long colour stays vibrant, nails stay intact and skin stays comfortable.
What follows is general good practice. Your specialist's own advice always comes first, because they know the products used and your hair or skin best.
It helps to write these instructions down or take a photo of them before you leave, since small details are easy to forget after a few days. Ask when your next session should be too, because regular follow-up is part of aftercare itself.
Hair colour and styling
After colour, it is usually best to wait two or three days before washing, rinse with lukewarm rather than hot water, and use products made for colour-treated hair.
- Use heat tools less often, and apply a heat protectant when you do
- Protect your hair from strong sun and from chlorine in pools
- A smooth pillowcase helps reduce tangles and frizz
- Trim the ends regularly to keep the shape of your cut
Nails
Nails last longer when protected from friction and too much water. Wear gloves when washing dishes or using cleaning products, and keep the skin around your nails moisturised with a cuticle oil.
Avoid using your nails as tools to open cans or peel labels, and never pick off gel or long-wear polish. Have it removed at the salon to protect the nail surface. If a nail breaks or the polish starts to lift, contact the salon to fix it rather than trying to repair it at home.
Lashes and brows
For the first day or two after lash extensions, a lash lift or a brow tint, keep the area away from water, steam and oily products. This helps the adhesive or tint settle.
Brush lashes gently with a clean spoolie, and try not to rub them or sleep face-down. If you notice redness, irritation or itching that does not go away, stop any new product and see a qualified specialist.
Facials and skincare at home
Skin is often a little more sensitive for a short while after a facial. Stick to a gentle cleanser and a simple moisturiser, pause exfoliants and strong actives for a few days, and wear sunscreen every day.
It also helps to skip saunas, intense workouts and heavy makeup on the same day, and give your skin time to calm down.
Above all, ask for aftercare instructions before you leave the salon and follow them as given. When Tasriha launches, booking these services will be available in one place.
